ASA Ruling on DeVosVoorzieningen BVBA t/a Qinux TitanPG
A June 2024 YouTube advert for the Quinux TitanPG watch claimed the following: (i) the watch would be banned from the public; (ii) the watch was made by a former UK Special Forces operator; (iii) the watch was taking the market by storm; (iv) the watch used “the most advanced military technology in the world”; (v) the watch was made from the “strongest military materials making it indestructible”; (vi) analysts predicted it to be the most popular watch of 2024; (vii) ‘Mark’, an alleged special forces operator in the UK army, claimed special forces wore next-level tactical smartwatches during missions; and (viii) the battery would last or two weeks without being charged. The advert elicited complaints about the product’s military background, robustness and the advanced technology used. The ASA found that DeVosVoorzieningen BVBA’s ads had breached the CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3.1 (Misleading advertising), 3.7 (Substantiation) and 3.33 (Comparisons with identifiable competitors), and were misleading as the claims could not be substantiated.
