ASA Ruling on Prettylittlething.com Ltd t/a Prettylittlething.com –
The ASA has ruled that 15 tweets from PrettyLittleThingon X (formerly Twitter) posted in November 2023 regarding Black Friday sales were misleading. The ASA considered whether: (i) certain tweets (including one stating “30% OFF EVERYTHING* CODE PINK30 […] Ends 12pm”) misleadingly implied that promotions applied to all products; (ii) the absence of closing dates from certain ads, and including closing dates when promotional periods were extended or shortened, breached the CAP code; and (iii) the ads misleadingly implied that further discounts would not be available when the promotion ended. Issues 1, 2 and 3 where upheld by ASA, and the tweets / ads were found to be misleading and in breach of the CAP Code. PrettyLittleThing must ensure that its ads do not appear in the same form, future ads make clear whether promotions apply across all products and future ads do not mislead as to closing dates of promotions or imply that discounts were time-limited or would not be repeated.
