The ASA has found that a Valentine’s Day prize draw appearing on the Instagram account of Pretty Little Thing was not carried out as a fair competition. The ruling was made on the basis that various entry requirements were set out in order for entrants to be eligible to win the competition but it was not possible for Pretty Little Thing to verify that they had been complied with. In particular, participants were offered a “bonus” entry to the draw if they shared the post but Pretty Little Thing had no way of confirming that this had been done and therefore no way of providing such entrants with the promised bonus entry before selecting a winner. For these reasons, the promotion was in breach of the CAP Code.
