The ASA received several complaints in respect of two clothing advertisements for Motel Rocks appearing on Facebook, on the basis that the models depicted in the posts appeared to be unhealthily underweight. The ASA agreed that the models looked very thin. Further, the models’ figures were emphasised by the camera angle and lighting used in the advertisements, in addition to the particular poses that had been chosen to display the clothing. For these reasons, the ASA upheld the complaints, ruling that the advertisements did not meet responsible advertising criteria and were therefore in breach of the CAP code. Motel Rocks has now removed the content.
